Learning Objectives:
  • Identify metastatic squamous cell carcinoma with cytomorphologic features characteristic of HPV-associated squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx.
  • Appropriately apply p16 immunohistochemical staining, high risk HPV in situ hybridization, or liquid based testing methodologies to squamous lesions of the head and neck to determine HPV status and inform further clinical evaluation and treatment.
