Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
  • List the types of meningiomas, as well as their assigned WHO grade
  • Recognize the histological (and occasionally unusual MRI features) of uncommon variants of meningioma, most of which are WHO grade I, including angiomatous, secretory, microcystic, myxoid, other metaplastic types
  • Define true brain invasion after this session
  • List the features, and grading where appropriate, for OTHER types of dural-based neoplasms such as solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma
  • Recognize that dural inflammatory processes can occur, and he/she should be able to formulate a cogent differential diagnosis for these, as well as know the appropriate histochemical/immunohistochemical workup
